Synopsis

I. Bundespraesident Heuss in Berlin. Heuss made honorary citizen by special council session, makes speech from Rathaus balcony; opens winter session at Free University, awarded honorary degree.

II. "Aktuelles in Kuerze." a. Enthusiastic reception for first German appearance in 16 years of actress Elizabeth Bergner. b. Munich's big "clean up" campaign: encouraged by music, food, etc. organisations and individuals voluntarily shifting rubble, including US occupation troops, the Mayor, Police Chief and a newly-wed couple. c. Californian sea-lion swims English Channel in 5 hours.

III. "Hong Kong blockade." Maps, establishing shots while commentary explains situation; Chinese read of Communist successes on mainland; border crossing point; European refugees from Shanghai; troops and equipment arrive to strengthen garrison.

IV. Work of Germany's post-war child location service ("40,000 found") illustrated by film of 2 children leaving orphanage and their reunion with family ("but 25,000 still wait").

V. President Truman lays foundation stone of new UNO building.

VI. Sport. a. Football (Denmark 3-2 Sweden, in Copenhagen). b. French cross-country m/cycle race.
