Synopsis

I. De Gaulle tours French-occupied zone of Germany, visiting Saarbrcken, Mainz etc, viewing remains of Westwall, and returning by launch across Rhine.

II. Report from Japan. a. Nagasaki A-bomb explosion. b. Hiroshima and Nagasaki after the attacks. c. Hirohito among the ruins of Tokyo. d. General Tojo receives blood transfusion after suicide attempt.

III. Munich Theatre reopens.

IV. British troops return from Far East, including film of Mountbatten and Lady Mountbatten visiting former POW camp and its inmates etc.

V. US soldiers learn skiing on Zugspitze slopes.

VI. Warsaw: parade honours the fallen, among the ruins and graves.

VII. Arrival in Bremerhaven of several American internees, including pre-war leader of the German-American Bund Fritz Kuhn.

VIII. Argentina: political disturbances in Buenos Aires (Peron).

IX. Hamburg: condition of famous Hagenbeck zoo; elephants help clear rubble in city.

X. V2 test firing "reveals secrets" to Allies.

XI. Sequence suggesting English industry's switch from war to peace production.
