Synopsis

I. French referendum on new constitution: polling scenes, including film of notables (eg Communist leader Thorez) casting votes; vote counting, and declaration of results ('Non' by 51-48%).

II. USA's day of Remembrance for Roosevelt. Eleanor Roosevelt and Truman lay wreaths and speak at grave; Gromyko comes to pay respects; also including film of funeral in 1945.

III. "Berliner Streiflichter." a. The Tiergarten, devastated by the war, is ploughed up (with help from the English) for allotment gardening. b. Training of telegraph apprentices. c. Performance by singer Hans Albers. IV. Sir Sholto Douglas, Montgomery's successor, arrives to take up duties as C-in-C and Military Governor, British Zone.

IV. Mauthausen Trial: the Tribunal reads the sentences; prisoners are removed by MPs.

V. Children evacuated under "Operation Stork" set out by train back to Berlin from the country round Osnabruck.

VII. "Bilder aus aller Welt." a. Bombay: the Aga Khan is weighed in diamonds to mark 60 years rule. b. Shakespeare's birthday, in Stratford. c. Monaco motor race. d. Antique car rally in USA.
