Synopsis

I. ‘General MacArthur Leads Attack on Admiralty Islands’ Map of the world; arrow with legend ‘MACARTHUR’ points at the Pacific theatre, Australia and New Guinea circled. General MacArthur, earplugs in, on board ship. Map of New Guinea, showing Japanese flag over Admiralty Islands. Naval bombardment leads combined attack. Infantry storm beach (commentary sheet: targeting Momote airfield). MacArthur congratulates troops after success. Artillery on Eniwetok Island; tanks advance over desolate landscape. Indigenous villagers huddle in ditch. Scenes of U.S. troops amid stands of devastated palm trees; troops display captured Japanese flag.
II. ‘Chiang-Kai Shek hails joint U.S. – China Air Wing’ Chiang-Kai Shek and his wife inspect new airmen and aircraft of the joint U.S. –Chinese air wing at SW China airbase.
III. ‘U.S. Navy’s New Patrol “Blimps” in Mass Flight’ Navy Patrol Blimps test flight in California, directed by Commander Boettner. Numerous blimps manoeuvred out of hangars and flown in formation; shot of cameraman filming the flight from hatch of blimp. Aerial and ground shots of ten blimps in flying in loose formation.
IV. ‘Troops on Leave Visit Wonders of Ancient World’ U.S. troops (two couples, in uniform) in Indian bazaar, and getting on board a train to visit Taj Mahal. Scenes at Taj Mahal. Large group of U.S. troops visiting the ruins Pompeii and Versuvius: shots of slow-flowing lava. Man levers blob of hot rock from smoking rocks, and soldiers light their cigarettes from it. Troops atop smoking crest of rock; waving to camera, silhouetted against backdrop of smoke and clouds.
V. ‘Huge Allied Armadas Battle Nazis Over Europe’ U.S. 8th Force Fighter Command airmen study attack plans before the camera. Bullets loaded into guns; pilots enter fighter aircraft (second pilot shown identifiable from plane marking as Lt. A. S. Cavallo). P-47 Thunderbolt fighters taking off, and flying in formation. Long, dramatic scenes of air battles and dogfights as fighters escort allied bomber squadron (commentary sheet: ‘Cameras, syncronized to operate with the guns, produce unparalleled battle films’). Aircraft land; pilot shows off painted-on German insignia on his plane, each of which signifies an enemy shot down. Airmen pose in front of fighter plane.
