Synopsis
INTEREST. A film of British West Africa.
Credits (23). The primitive fishing of the natives on the Gold Coast - they beach their boat, lay out their nets and repair any damage to them ready for the next morning's fishing. The women scrape and clean the catch (209). Shots of the village (264). The fish is put into hard-baked mud kilns and smoked ready for export (282). The children play in the sea (388). Further inland is the country market where fishermen exchange goods with the inland farmers (516). Shots of the villagers at work and play (580). (588). A native weaving - a typical gaily coloured cloth that the villagers like to wear (656). The making of soap which is done by burning banana skins and mixing the ash with palm oil (736). The women washing their clothes in the river (819). Two young ladies and their primitive beauty treatments (821). A young male decorating his face and eyes (858). The women again (874). The man again (886). Western influence is illustrated by the fact that the natives play football (955). The natives are taught how to properly cultivate cocoa (1052). Natives collecting cocoa pods, whereupon the beans are extracted and dried in the sun. Then they are ready, according to the commentary, for Cadbury's buyers to select the best for Bourneville (1146). Ships being loaded with sacks of beans for export (1177 ft).
