Synopsis

ACTUALITY. A British official opens the Agriculture and Health Exhibition in Bengal, 1933. The opening ceremony and crowds.

Bengali titles (6). The entrance to the exhibition seen in the background. Two temporary towers with white painted domes, a lion over the archway with Bengali script and the word MELA (fair?) In the foreground is the corner of a reception tent with guests seated. A number of cars arrive carrying European and Indian dignitaries. They alight and greet guests (139). Further greetings with mainly Indians (191). Speeches by Europeans. They stand and leave the reception tent. Guests follow (263). The entrance to the Exhibition as previously described (268). Dignitaries and guests enter and are seen looking at the exhibits. The exhibition is a temporary affair with tents, wooden counters and thatched roofs. It is not clear what is being exhibited (355). An Indian Army bagpipe and marching band parades through the entrance followed by crowds of Indians. The band, on parade, playing. Further European dignitaries and some Indian dignitaries enter the archway followed by the band. This shots seem to repeated twice, though from a different angle (629). The Union Flag flying (641).
