Synopsis

INTEREST. Aspects of life among the Swazi; parts of the Kingship and First-Fruits Ceremony, or Incwala, shown. Shots of countryside (60-84). Cattle on the road (96). Administration buildings, some white people pass by (120). Two black policemen (130). Tribesmen in local costume walking along the road (146). "Beehive" huts in a kraal (173). Men bathing in a low waterfall (187), another man washing his shield (194). A man arranging his hair (206). Women bathing (228). Children playing in the river (254). A small boy (270). A married woman helps another put the finishing touches to her hair - set with grease and red earth (310). An unmarried girl showing her hair style (322). Men preparing feathers for their ceremonial head-dresses and other parts of their costumes for the national ceremony of Incwala (359). A man in full dress (372). Cattle being driven across a river (387). Warriors coming across the countryside to the royal kraal (408). The Queen Mother or Indlovinkati - Lamawa, Queen mother to Sobhuza II (422). Warriors assembling outside the kraal of the King or Ingwenyama (450). The warriors go to the forests of the low veld to collect branches from the sekwane tree. They return to the Queen Mother's kraal carrying the branches which are used to build a special kraal called inhlambelo (590). Later a black bull is driven into this kraal where the king and his captains perform ceremonies (593). All the warriors enter the kraal and, bare-handed, chase and overcome the bull ready for sacrifice (652). On the last day of the celebrations, the warriors, in ceremonial dress, gather around a pyre on which the bull's bones are burnt (704). Warriors arriving (742). Singing and chanting begins (820).
