Synopsis
The story of the meeting, in Africa, of two men who find that they were the husband and lover of the same woman.
Rl. 1. Captain Bull is in charges of an African outpost. A local witch doctor is inciting the natives to rise and kill the white men. Bull receives orders to hold the post as the relief column cannot rash him for a few days. He ambushes the witch doctor, who is brought before him and the Medical Officer - Doc. The witch doctor says that he can see a skull between the two men. Bull orders him to be shot. Bull and Doc start talking. Bull asks Doc if he is married and when Doc replies yes, Bull tells him that he would have been married but that she already had a husband. He met her on sick leave and they fell in love (865).
Rl. 2. In flashback, he tells how they parted when his leave was up. She received a telegram from her husband saying he was coming home on leave, she seemed afraid of her husband. In flashback, her husband is seen arriving home and it is Doc. He finds, Daphne, his wife, dead on the floor having taken poison. She leaves a note confessing and saying she could not face him as she had broken faith. He vows to find the man and kill him. The two men realise their relationship and Doc draws a gun. Bull also draws a gun and they agree to wait ten seconds and then both fire. Bull hears the native drums and is recalled to his duty to the post, but Doc is determined to shoot. Before he can, the post is attacked and Bull falls with a spear in his back. Doc then realises his duty and goes to take charges of the post (1719ft).
