Synopsis

Amateur film. The first film taken by Salvesen of the new floating factory. Leaving South Georgia late September 1928. Shots taken from `Saragossa' of rough seas between South Georgia and ice; two floating factories without stern slips; two blue whales; gunner at gun; whale blowing in the distance; seals; seamen in crowsnest; whale shot; playing the whale (pulley system); preparing second line 60 fathoms long; at the end of the harpoon is a grenade which explodes inside the whale. British boats with almost exclusively Norwegian crews; blue whale being made fast.
