Empire in Revolt

Throughout the history of the British Empire, colonial subjects regularly took up arms against their British rulers. Amongst the earliest films of the Empire are those which document one such uprising: the Boer War (1899-1902). From Kenya to Malaya, from Aden to Cyprus, the films selected here highlight some of the many revolts the British faced within its colonies during the 20th century.
