SADAUNG WELCOMES RAF OFFICERS (20/3/1945)
This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: ABY 96).
Synopsis
Civilians in Sadaung, southeast of Meiktila, Burma, welcome RAF officers who helped reclaim their village from the Japanese.
A jeep drives up and comes to a halt outside a wooden house. RAF officers get out of the jeep and are greeted by a local Burmese man, and his wife and child. An RAF Flight Lieutenant holds a young child. Local children, obviously dressed for the occasion, put garlands of flowers around the officers' necks. A dance is staged for their entertainment. A man beats a drum, and another plays a 'wa letkote' or bamboo clapper. Close-up of a man beating a drum with both hands while blowing a whistle.
Notes
Dopesheet remarks that the Burmese man who greets the RAF officers had studied Law at Oxford.
No slates. Two dates on dopesheet; that given above is the earlier of the two and more likely to be correct.
