Production / Donor Details: The collection of films was shot by Major General William Clavering Hartgill CB, OBE, MC, KHS, 1888-1968. General Hartgill was born and educated in Dannevirke, New Zealand, and did his medical and surgical training at the London Hospital. In 1914 he joined the R.A.M.C. as a Lieutenant and served from 1914-1918 in France & Belgium, and in the Somaliland Campaign in 1920. He travelled widely during his army career between the wars, and from 1941-43 was Deputy Director-General of Army Medical Services at the War Office. From 1944-47 he was an Honorary Surgeon to the King. He retired in 1947.
