Synopsis
Goose keeping and cattle culture in the New Territories. Stormy weather in Hong Kong harbour with approaching typhoon. 1935 Jubilee celebration with carnival processions. Military marching band. Chung Chow. Very rough weather in the harbour during the approach of a typhoon.
Production / Donor Details: The collection of films was shot by Major General William Clavering Hartgill CB, OBE, MC, KHS, 1888-1968. General Hartgill was born and educated in Dannevirke, New Zealand, and did his medical and surgical training at the London Hospital. In 1914 he joined the R.A.M.C. as a Lieutenant and served from 1914-1918 in France & Belgium, and in the Somaliland Campaign in 1920. He travelled widely during his army career between the wars, and from 1941-43 was Deputy Director-General of Army Medical Services at the War Office. From 1944-47 he was an Honorary Surgeon to the King. He retired in 1947.
